To give you the best possible service, our team will ask about your home’s details. It’s best to have this information on hand for accuracy and efficiency.

1

What is your average kWh for the past 12 months?

Knowing your power usage helps determine the size of solar system your home will need.

2

I’m not sure how to find my annual kWh, what should I do?

You can log in to your online utility account or call your provider to request a usage report. Our team can also guide you through the process if you need help.

  • SRP: (602) 236-888

  • APS: (602) 371-7171

3

How old if your roof?

The condition of your roof is crucial before installing a solar system. We’ll ask about its age to understand if any repairs or replacements are needed. Knowing the type of roof and the age of your home also helps us determine how solar will integrate with your property.

Well organized team. Felt very comfortable that we didn't need to be present for all stages of the project. We were very pleased with their solar panel installation 4 years ago that we used them for a new roof this month. I would recommend them for either project.

American Solar installed our solar system 12 years ago, so, we chose them to replace the underlayment on our tile roof for two reasons. First we were satisfied with our problem free solar system. Secondly, because other roofers were not willing to handle both roofing and removing /replacing the solar system. We are very satisfied with our decision to use American Solar and Roofing.

The experience with American Solar and Roofing was fantastic from start to finish. I had with Sean an information sharing session with someone knowledgeable in the field, not just someone who was trying to fit me in a box to collect a commission. All in all I definitely recommend this team.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does solar actually make sense in Phoenix?

Yes. Phoenix gets abundant sunshine, making it an ideal place for solar. And when Arizona’s summer heat sends energy costs soaring, your solar system can help you take control of the power your home depends on.

At American Solar & Roofing, we’ve been helping Phoenix homeowners make confident energy decisions since 2001. We’ll take the time to understand your home, explain your options, and recommend what makes sense for you.

How do solar panels actually work?

Solar panels capture sunlight and turn it into electricity for your home. An inverter then converts that power into the type of electricity your home uses every day.

Your solar power goes where you need it first—running your air conditioner, refrigerator, lights, and other essentials. If your system produces more electricity than your home needs, the extra power can flow back to the utility grid for applicable credits.

When your panels aren’t producing, such as at night or during extended cloudy weather, your home can draw electricity from the grid as usual.

Solar works alongside your utility connection, giving your home another source of power while keeping you connected.

Will solar panels eliminate my electric bill?

Not necessarily. Even with solar, your home typically remains connected to the utility, and your bill may include fixed service or grid-access charges.

A properly sized solar system can significantly reduce the portion of your bill tied to the electricity you use. The goal is to help you better understand and manage your energy costs, not promise something that may not fit your home.

We believe you deserve clear answers before making a decision. We’ll show you what you can reasonably expect from your system, including potential remaining utility costs.

A plan built around your home and your goals.

How much does solar cost in Arizona?

Solar is not a one-size-fits-all purchase. Your system is designed around your home, energy use, roof, and electrical needs, so pricing can vary from one home to another.

The biggest factors include how much electricity you use, your roof’s pitch, material and condition, system size, and whether electrical upgrades are needed.

Before making a decision, you deserve to know exactly what you’re getting. Ask for a clear, itemized proposal that shows the system, expected production, and total costs so you can compare your options with confidence.

Your home is unique. Your solar project should be, too.

Is solar worth it in Arizona?

For many Phoenix homeowners, solar can make a lot of sense. It all depends on your home, energy use, utility, and goals. Arizona’s sunshine and high summer temperatures create strong potential for solar.

You deserve to know what solar could look like for your home, not someone else’s. A trustworthy installer should review your actual energy use and utility plan before making a recommendation.

How do I know if my roof is suitable for solar?

Most Phoenix homes clear the bar for solar. The key deciding factors are usable roof space, orientation, shading, and roof condition.

Your roof should have enough life left to support your solar system for years to come. We’ll look at your roof and home together so you can move forward with confidence, or know what needs attention first.

The right solar system starts with the roof underneath it.

Should I replace my roof before installing solar?

If your roof has fewer than roughly 10 years of life left, it may make sense to replace it before or alongside your solar installation. Solar panels can last for decades, so installing them on an aging roof can mean paying to remove and reinstall them later.

That’s why American Solar & Roofing handles both roofing and solar in-house, helping protect your home and your investment from unnecessary work down the road.

How long does it take to go solar in Arizona?

The installation itself usually takes 2-3 days. The full process can take several weeks to a few months, depending on system design, permitting, and utility approval.

The timeline can vary by home and jurisdiction, so your installer should give you a realistic estimate and keep you informed along the way.

We believe you should know what to expect from the start.

What are the steps to going solar?

The solar process typically has five steps:

  1. Home and energy evaluation
  2. System design and written proposal
  3. Permitting and HOA approval, if required
  4. Installation and inspection
  5. Utility approval and permission to operate

Some steps take longer than others, but your installer should keep you informed throughout the process.

We’ll help you understand each step so you never feel left in the dark.

How does going solar work with APS versus SRP?

APS and SRP have different rate plans, solar programs, and rules for how excess solar energy is credited. That means a system designed for one utility may not be the right fit for another.

Before choosing a solar plan, make sure your proposal is based on your actual utility and rate plan. American Solar & Roofing works with APS, SRP, TEP, and other Arizona utilities.

The right plan starts with understanding how your home actually uses power.
