Solar Service Technician

Job Location: Phoenix, AZ

Job Type: Full Time

Pay: $25-$30 per hour

The primary responsibility of the Service Technician is to address potential and known issues as relayed by American Solar & Roofing’s commissioned customer base with a focus on timely and effective customer service. This position requires thorough understanding PV system operation, electrical wiring experience and the ability to communicate project details to various stakeholders. This position requires work to be performed both on ground and on roof. Other essential skills include system troubleshooting, quality assurance and adherence to company safety standards and protocols.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Customer Management
    • Repair or maintain customer systems as warranty or contract states
    • Coordinate inverter manufacture warranty claims on customer’s behalf
    • Communicate with the Customer Service Representative
    • Upsell other repairs or scope of work while on site
  • Safety, Quality Assurance & Training
    • Continuously promote safety, quality and exceptional customer service
    • Ensure all vehicles, equipment and tools are clean and functioning
  • Reporting & Documentation
    • Document field findings in company database, including readings, photos and descriptions of issues and repairs.

Secondary Responsibilities

  • Conduct roof inspection for roof damage or wear that could affect the integrity of the solar or roof.
  • Seal and protect roof penetrations to prevent leaks.
  • Clean debris from rooftops and gutters.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Ability to create documents and reports using MS Word, Excel and Power Point
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills in English (bilingual a plus)
  • Ability to document service calls and field findings in Salesforce
  • Ability to utilize email communications
  • Work effectively, patiently and pleasantly with all stakeholders
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks, set priorities and work within time constraints
  • Willing to work odd hours
  • Solid and proven decision making skills
  • Strictly adhere to safety guidelines

Qualifications (required)

  • 2+ years of PV system installation experience
  • Thorough understanding of PV inverter and system troubleshooting
  • Strong knowledge of building codes (NEC, IRC, IFC, TRI, and roofing)
  • Completion of OSHA 10 Hour Outreach Training Program for Construction
  • Clean Driving Record and DoT Medical Card

Physical Qualifications

  • Overview: The Service Technician position is a demanding and sometimes hazardous profession which is designated as a safety-sensitive job. Safety-sensitive jobs require specialized training and physical qualifications in order to reduce the risk of injury to oneself or others.
  • Strength: For good reason it is a requirement of the job that one be reasonably strong. Many solar items are heavy and must be lifted in order to get the job done.
  • Flexibility: Employees must be extremely flexible. An individual who is not flexible will be predisposed to strains and injuries. Reaching and stretching are a constant of the job. Climbing ladders, loading material and walking on roofs require reaching and stretching.
  • Temperature Extremes: Working an eight to ten hour day outside where temperatures range from 120 degrees F to 30 degrees F can be challenging. At these temperatures, there are physiological and mental limitations. Therefore, employees are required to possess physiological attributes that allow for sustained performance in hot and cold conditions.
